Practical Principles and Applications for Experiencing the Empowerment of the Holy Spirit

James Maloney is a gifted communicator, an expressive story teller, and an articulate writer. I was emotionally touched and moved with compassion as I read his vivid descriptions of physical suffering and the plight of the diseased and infirmed in hopeless circumstances. Humanly speaking, doomed to more horrific suffering and death.
Overwhelmed by the Spirit offers hope to the suffering and a challenge to the reader; to take action and join him in unlocking the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit available within and to do His work.
This is strong theological teaching on the Holy Spirit, well documented, from a Charismatic tradition, with practical principles and application that cross over any denominational lines. I appreciated the scholarly presentation at an academic level that will be appreciated by theologians, yet written with clarity easily understandable at a layman's level.
The book details the progression of the Maloney's ministry and takes him to a new understanding of what it means to manifest the sonship of God and to allow Christ full reign in his life. Consistent with his testimony and with Biblical teaching James helps the reader discover their gift and calling, experience supernatural experiences in their lives, to walk in the miraculous, and to lead others to Christ.

Evangelism

The first seven out of nine chapters was attempting to show us that the Helper (Holy Spirit) is training us to present the truth to others. The overarching message of the book is evangelism. Joining with God through the Holy Spirit to witness to others that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Or that God really wants to have a relationship with everyone. I.E. that none should perish but all will have eternal life. Chapters 1-4 and 6 were hard for me too understand what the author was trying to impart to the reader. Chapter 5 was the best one of the first six chapters. This dealt with what happened to his wife and how he responded. The book seemed very dry. It would have helped to understand what the author was trying to get the reader to understand if he could have used some examples. The end of the book provides sample chapters of other books for you to read (kindle version). Not sure why they did this. The last chapter gives the reader a description of the very basic level of Hell. You may not believe the author on how he arrived at that description. The description sounds like what we would think Hell was. Even if you do not fully believe everything presented, you will get a feeling of were a person could go. With that information, the author stress the importance of evangelism so that no one will ever have to go there again.

First level of Hell

Overwhelmed by the Spirit is a good book. I found the chapter called Hopeless to be an eye opener. In this chapter James describes an angel taking him to see the first level of Hell. I won't include everything that James saw but enough to reveal a picture. You can read the rest for yourself.
James felt his spirit body going straight down through the ground and through the earth. Based on this, Hell must be inside the center of the earth where we think of the hot molten lava core being. I'm wondering if earthquakes and volcanos are really Hell expanding?
James found himself and the angel in a large, dark cavern. The walls looked like black concrete. He heard screaming, moaning and wailing. The place was very hot like a furnace.
The smell was an overpowering stench of sulfur and burning decay. He had all of his senses; sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. He found that he had to beathe just like we do as humans. So he was breathing this stinky air in and out of his lungs and breathing was difficult due to the extreme heat. James could think with his mind just as he did in our human world.
Large demons were chained to the walls. They were growling and yanking on their chains. They spoke in some kind of demon language.
James saw what he thought was a lake filled with very black water but instead he realized the water was an oily or gooey sludge and at the bottom of it was a multitude of narrow pits. Inside each pit was a soul submerged in the sludge and beathing the substance in and out of their soul-bodies. The souls could not climb out. They will breath that black, oily sludge in and out of their bodies forever.
James believes the punishment for sin is torment and hopelessness forever and souls are not annilated after a certain period of time, instead, they are left in Hell forever to pay for their sins.
