Read This Book to Understand This Author's Understanding of Bible Mysteries

Whenever you encounter a book with the bold claim in its description that it will be "leaning on God’s revealed truths rather than human reasoning...", you should be at least a bit weary. Every author in his or her interpretation of the Bible is using human reasoning to explain their understanding of the text. This isn't inherently bad, for human reasoning when used well is a gift from God. But, to claim that any human-authored book about Scripture lacks human reasoning is terribly misleading.

Furthermore, if you read portions of this book you will find that the author clearly imports his own reasoning into his discussions of supposed Bible mysteries. You will also find that the author appears to be unfamiliar with the scholarship of conservative evangelical Bible scholars on some of the "mysteries" he purports to solve once for all. This severely hurts his conclusions at many points. For example, in chapter 4 on page 57 you will find that the author claims that "the natural consequence" of the doctrine of eternal security is that "it really doesn't matter how we live." On this point, the author is either unaware of scholarly discussions on this doctrine or intentionally misleads his readers.

In addition, at times the author makes (what at least appear to me) obvious mistakes that undermine his credibility. For instance, in the very first chapter on the very first page he refers to the Reformation doctrine of "solo Scriptura." While "solo" is perhaps very close to "sola" when comparing the two words as an English speaker, the difference is important. The correct phrase from the Reformation is "sola Scriptura." The Reformers weren't advocating reading the Bible by one's self in isolation from all others ("solo"), but rather treating Scripture as the authoritative source for life and doctrine above any human tradition ("sola").

In conclusion, if you've gotten anything from this review, my hope is that you have come to understand that all human reflections on Scripture use human reasoning. Indeed, it would be impossible for a human writer to write on anything without using his or her mental reasoning to construct sentences. If you are looking to understand the "Bible Mysteries" the author discusses in this work, I would recommend looking elsewhere for more biblically-accurate and historically-informed conclusions.

I couldn't get past the first chapter. I have studied/researched tithing. In my opinion, this chapter hardly addresses the arguments for or against this practice. It turned me off to reading anything further. I've found websites providing more insight and information.

Gain clarity on Biblical revelations

After reading this book my heart wondered how many Christians live in deception from accepting heresies and adapting mindset beliefs that have traditionally been passed down through generations. God's mandate however is that we rightly divide the Word of God. Ira Milligan's book Understanding Bible Mysteries will expose several deceptive doctrines and back each point with Scriptures.
The necessity of tithing will be looked at along with the benefits which is not money and wealth but spiritual revelations. Too shared are spiritual costs to not paying tithes.
The most challenging issue I read was regarding the rapture as I, like so many, have taken on the "pre-tribulation" stance. though I have much continuing growth needed in the area of the end time events, you will hear reasonings as to why the church believes the rapture will excuse the saints from the tribulation but should also consider more Bible revelation.
Noted is that God's Word is not a book of formulas to memorize so we can get what we want. Rather, we must acknowledge that which God placed within us and not just quote promises in His Word.
Eternal security, a greatly controversial stance will be disputed from the book of Hebrews and Milligan will prove being disobedient and turning away from God can result in lost salvation.
Learn also truths regarding how water baptism should be administered and why the term Priesthood does not refer to the husband of the home. Just when are we considered the Bride of Christ and does God allow Satan to make people sick when they sin will also be good revelation.
You will gain understanding on the conditions needed for prayer to be answered along with many other nuggets of truth. I recommend you read this book and share with others in an effort to clarify those issues that have been misunderstood. The author has other excellent books as well worth exploring.

excellent source

I bought this math book to supplement my son's math school curriculum. As with all Singapore math books, this one makes kids actually think and offers math problems that require two to three to four steps in order to find a solution. The book teaches kids how to think and how to solve. I wish it was offered at my son's school. There is no surprise that the book is aimed at 7th graders and not 6th graders as the cover suggests. American Math instruction lags at least one full year behind not only Singapore, China and Russia but most of countries in Europe. However, a bright 5th or 6th grader would appreciate the challenge. The problems are arranged in such a way that there is plenty of free space to write out the solution, no draft paper is needed. Therefore, it is not a very densely written text book.

I have been using Singapore mathbooks in the past 7 years and I have noticed that every new edition gets more and more dumbed down. I wonder if anyone else noticed this tendency?

The product came on time and in a good condition. Some of the problems were beyond what my students could do, but with the new common core standards, I am going to give it another try. The problems were challenging enough, but with the previous CST standards, it did not have everything I was looking for.

"Last weekend, when I turned off the TV and had some time to think, I came to peace about something." Brian spoke slowly, but deliberately. "I came to peace with the fact that I'm just not ready to be married yet. Honestly, I just can't see myself getting married anytime in the next two years."

Brian and I had been dating for over a year. As I listened, I felt my soul pulling away, like when you drew in your breath after you skinned your knee when you were a kid. For a minute, you didn't feel any pain; you were just stunned.

A wave of grief and loneliness was building just in front of me, ready to swallow me, and I couldn't get away.

I sat there, trying to get the world to stop spinning, trying to comprehend the weight of what was just spoken.

After several minutes, I spoke, sensing that the words didn't come from me but from God. "Well, it was a good year."

"Yeah, it was a great year. It was a great year." From the look on his face, he meant every word.

Finally, the tears came. We sat in silence for a long time. I followed Brian numbly into the kitchen as he put up his glass, and then we prayed. We sat awkwardly on the stairs of the townhouse. We didn't touch, but it was enough to be there together, praying, thanking God for His blessings, grace, and guidance, asking for His strength.

"Talk to you later." With that, he shut the door. I stood there leaning against the corner for the next five minutes. I was still numb; I couldn't comprehend how I would survive the days and weeks and years that stretched bleakly in front of me.

I had never experienced that kind of pain. I felt like the foundation of my world had collapsed, and I couldn't break my fall.

That following Sunday, my pastor preached a message that seemed to be aimed directly at me. It was about the peace of God and the hope we can have in the worst situation when we know God is using it for our good, making something beautiful with it. With that message, God gave me hope that would carry me through the dark days to come. He would use this loss to carve away at my black heart and make me more like Him. Something new would be born in me-a new peace, a new humility, a more genuine love. In spite of all this-through all this-God would work good, and He would make me a little more right in the process. I held on to that promise.

I don't remember much about the next few months except that they were dark. The healing process was predictable only in the fact that it was unpredictable. I wrote in my journal:

Just when I think I'll never be done with it, I'm suddenly overwhelmed with a sense of peace and light and direction. I have a strength I didn't know I had. Then, other times, I'm strong and sure, when I'm hit square between the eyes with the worst kind of pain. It still takes my breath away, and literally makes me feel like I'll throw up. It's been just over a month. It feels like so much longer.

When I was down in the worst places, I knew hope would break through. And when I was strong, I knew terrible pain would come.

Before Brian and I started going out, I had come to a place in life where I was content. It hadn't been easy-and the battle hadn't been completely won-but I was delighting in God as I never had before. Life was joyful, in spite of singleness. God's love filled my life.

I'm finding it hard to recover that contentment.

My natural, systemic worry is fueled by the gray hair that's becoming more noticeable and by an intense gnawing doubt that perhaps I'll never marry. I was designed to get married and have a family; it's built into my nature. I may never realize that dream. The potential loss is monumental. On my bad days, I don't know if I can live with that kind of disappointment and still keep my faith.

Is it possible to find victory here? It must be, with God's help.

If I'm not able to relinquish this dream, I'm afraid I'll be spiritually and emotionally crippled. God has to be able to get me past this.

At the same time, I feel rather foolish for feeling this pain so deeply. So many people out there have hurt much more than I have. I have a wonderful family and good friends; my needs are met more than abundantly.

Yet, I have the gall to be depressed about being single? It seems selfish and petty. God has given me so much-am I going to hold this against Him?

However small this issue may seem, for me it is a deeply personal and private pain. And the more single men and women I talk to, the more convinced I am that I'm not alone.

I hope this journey together leads us closer to wholeness, peace, and an intimate knowledge of God.

And that's the truth!

Finally! A Christian book on singlehood that isn't preachy, sugar-coated, or a thinly-disguised how-to-catch-a-spouse book (Smith states at the beginning, "as if a relationship begun by such a method would be worth having"--right on!) She attacks some of the well-meaning but wrong, and sometimes hurtful, statements from others about our singleness, such as "I know God has just the right man for you, you'll meet him someday" ....None of us knows God's plans for our friends. She also points out how we tend to trivialize two of the most powerful verses in the Bible: Psalm 37:4 ("Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart"); and Jeremiah 29:11("I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future"). By focusing on these verses alone and ignoring the context (David's exaltation not to fret, to trust God, to obey him; Jeremiah's missive to the captives in Babylon telling them God wants them to stay for a while, and to never forget his future plans for the nation of Israel are always good), we trivialize the verses and turn them into sayings that will somehow magically make everything better. Smith goes on to remind us how these verses do show what God does provide when we feel like we are in a holding pattern, something much better than a magic "spell".
I, like Smith, have sometimes loved being single, and sometimes hurt deeply wondering why God has "forgotten" me in this area. I found this book to be empathic but not enabling, true to Biblical principals, and very well written. A special blessing: Smith doesn't leave out widow/ers, single parents, or divorce/es, which, sadly, many Christian books on singlehood do. She also doesn't assume her audience stops after 35. And this 41 year old is very grateful.

As an author whose writes about singleness and the Christian life, I've had occasion to read a LOT of books on singles and singleness (an occupational hazzard). Lori Smith's The Single Truth is by far the best book on the subject that I have ever picked up. In a style that is at once emotionally honest and vulnerable, yet thoroughly grounded in God's Word, Lori carries us along on her own personal (yet universal) journey as a Christian single who's disillusioned with a God who fails to do for us the things we think He should. In her quest for understanding, she moves us from a place of desperation to faith, loneliness to community, falsehood to life-giving truth.
There isn't a single anywhere (man or woman) who won't immediately relate to Lori's honest account of her struggles as a single. Her brazen honesty is refreshing--but she doesn't stop there. She goes beyond the struggle to search for genuine, realistic answers in God's Word...and she finds them. The biblical truths she shares aren't simplistic and they aren't churchy; they're real, perhaps even gritty. And they're powerful.
If you're looking for a book that encourages you to wallow in self-pity, or simply rants along with you about what a rotten hand you've been dealt in this life, then this isn't the book for you. But if you're really looking for a way out of the quiet despair that plagues so many singles, then Lori's book is the place you should begin.

Single Truth is for Everyone

I was single until 33 and read many books on relationships and singleness. This is the first one I've read devoted to being content as a single. Even though I'm married now, I can definitely relate to this book. I highly recommend this for both single men and women (don't let the cover fool you), as well as married couples. It provides a fresh perspective on being content at where you're at. Many singles are so focused on dating and getting married that they forget God's perspective. Please check this out no matter what your gender or marital status!

Created to enjoy God

This book challenged me when I read the first couple of chapters, and keeps challenging me even when I stop reading. It may be simple, but it's true: we are created to know God, and knowing God changes everything. My own personal hunger for more of God has intensified as I spent time meditating on the Scriptures and real-life examples that Antonio writes about. "In Your Presence is fullness of joy" - how we need that joy today, when our ears are filled with news of violence and fear! I thank God for Antonio's challenge to me, personally, and to all of us who feel drawn to take the plunge into the wild depths of God's Love!

A blessing to say the least

If you are looking for deeper insight into the heart of God I highly recommend this book. Antonio Baldovinos has wisdom and passion for the things of God that is rarely seen in this day and age. I was thoroughly blessed to read this book. My favourite chapters were "The mystery of Jesus" and "filled to overflowing". Be blessed!

In 2007, two Israeli news publications, Israel Today and News First Class, reported that the most famous rabbi in Israel's modern history, 108-year-old Yitzhak Kaduri, had left a cryptic death note revealing the name of the long-awaited Messiah. Within a year after the rabbi's death, the note was reported to have been verified as authentic by some of Kaduri's closest followers and then placed on Kaduri's own website (Kaduri.net). To the befuddlement and consternation of Orthodox Jews everywhere, the Messiah’s name, the Rabbi said, is “Yehoshua,” “Yeshua,” “Yahusha” – the Hebrew name of the one that English speaking people refer to as “Jesus.” This Highly Venerated Jewish Rabbi said he met Yeshua (Jesus) in a vision telling him that He Yeshua (Jesus) would be coming Soon! The Truth Is Wonderful! Hallehlujah! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

However Jesus, as the Ultimate Jewish Rabbi and God's Son Said in Matthew 15:3-8 3He (Jesus) answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 5But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,” 6he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God. 7You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
8“‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 9in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” (ESV)

"28A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God." Most people are fascinated by stories of those who have had near death experiences, I found the ones in this book just that. Fascinating, well written, and emotional. Definitely makes you rethink the afterlife. Love the history and the scripture Rabbi Bernis includes. If you or someone you know have doubts read this book.

Practical Principles and Applications for Experiencing the Empowerment of the Holy Spirit

James Maloney is a gifted communicator, an expressive story teller, and an articulate writer. I was emotionally touched and moved with compassion as I read his vivid descriptions of physical suffering and the plight of the diseased and infirmed in hopeless circumstances. Humanly speaking, doomed to more horrific suffering and death.

Overwhelmed by the Spirit offers hope to the suffering and a challenge to the reader; to take action and join him in unlocking the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit available within and to do His work.

This is strong theological teaching on the Holy Spirit, well documented, from a Charismatic tradition, with practical principles and application that cross over any denominational lines. I appreciated the scholarly presentation at an academic level that will be appreciated by theologians, yet written with clarity easily understandable at a layman's level.

The book details the progression of the Maloney's ministry and takes him to a new understanding of what it means to manifest the sonship of God and to allow Christ full reign in his life. Consistent with his testimony and with Biblical teaching James helps the reader discover their gift and calling, experience supernatural experiences in their lives, to walk in the miraculous, and to lead others to Christ.

Evangelism

The first seven out of nine chapters was attempting to show us that the Helper (Holy Spirit) is training us to present the truth to others. The overarching message of the book is evangelism. Joining with God through the Holy Spirit to witness to others that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Or that God really wants to have a relationship with everyone. I.E. that none should perish but all will have eternal life. Chapters 1-4 and 6 were hard for me too understand what the author was trying to impart to the reader. Chapter 5 was the best one of the first six chapters. This dealt with what happened to his wife and how he responded. The book seemed very dry. It would have helped to understand what the author was trying to get the reader to understand if he could have used some examples. The end of the book provides sample chapters of other books for you to read (kindle version). Not sure why they did this. The last chapter gives the reader a description of the very basic level of Hell. You may not believe the author on how he arrived at that description. The description sounds like what we would think Hell was. Even if you do not fully believe everything presented, you will get a feeling of were a person could go. With that information, the author stress the importance of evangelism so that no one will ever have to go there again.

First level of Hell

Overwhelmed by the Spirit is a good book. I found the chapter called Hopeless to be an eye opener. In this chapter James describes an angel taking him to see the first level of Hell. I won't include everything that James saw but enough to reveal a picture. You can read the rest for yourself.

James felt his spirit body going straight down through the ground and through the earth. Based on this, Hell must be inside the center of the earth where we think of the hot molten lava core being. I'm wondering if earthquakes and volcanos are really Hell expanding?

James found himself and the angel in a large, dark cavern. The walls looked like black concrete. He heard screaming, moaning and wailing. The place was very hot like a furnace.

The smell was an overpowering stench of sulfur and burning decay. He had all of his senses; sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. He found that he had to beathe just like we do as humans. So he was breathing this stinky air in and out of his lungs and breathing was difficult due to the extreme heat. James could think with his mind just as he did in our human world.

Large demons were chained to the walls. They were growling and yanking on their chains. They spoke in some kind of demon language.

James saw what he thought was a lake filled with very black water but instead he realized the water was an oily or gooey sludge and at the bottom of it was a multitude of narrow pits. Inside each pit was a soul submerged in the sludge and beathing the substance in and out of their soul-bodies. The souls could not climb out. They will breath that black, oily sludge in and out of their bodies forever.

James believes the punishment for sin is torment and hopelessness forever and souls are not annilated after a certain period of time, instead, they are left in Hell forever to pay for their sins.

In their book Deliverance from Toxic Memories - Weapons to Overcome Destructive Thought Patterns in Your Life Ken and Jeanne Harrington look at both the physical and spiritual components of memories; how they are formed, retrieved, and processed. The book is made up of three sections: Physical Aspects of Memory, Deliverance from Toxic Memories, and Preventing the Formation of Toxic Memories.

The Harrington's emphasize that toxic memories are a perception and that it is important to take proactive steps to release fear, and erase the toxic memories of the past. Their conclusions regarding the creation of changes in thought patterns, emotional responses and the resultant change in an individual's personal circumstances suggests and encourages the reader to pursue an amazing exploration and discovery into the freedom that comes with healing from toxic memories.

This is a great book about how things can destroy your mind and emotions. We need to renew our minds by the word of God and let Him heal the toxic memories of bad thoughts. God wants us to be able to overcome these destructive though patterns and have a pure mind. So many people have bad memories of their past and the present. God can heal all those bad memories and give you a new start. Turn to Him and let Him do it. We need to help others to see the truth and get them healed also. Recommend to all Christians because we all have things that try to torment us. God is a God of truth and healing.

Superbly done!

I finished this great book at 4:00 AM this morning and wiped away huge tears from my eyes as I plodded back down the hall to bed, again. This story has to be mostly true. It is just too wonderful to be all fiction, well, some may be the authors marvelous imagination. There is SO much to love about this book. There is something for everyone: true love, really hot hatred, violence and fury, vicious jealousy, wicked betrayal, corruption in local Gov't offices, sweet marital tenderness, harsh realities, and most of all there is a huge amount of faith in a loving God that Ryan weaves like a golden thread in and out of her well written novel of falling away only to come back stronger.

One of the few elements that I did not agree with was Mike's decision to leave her all alone knowing she was pregnant even with all the mistakes centering around her doubts about being thrown into sudden motherhood. To me it was not the time for a new husband to leave his vulnerable bride that he supposedly loves so dearly. Then, in the end, after reuniting with her a shocking life-threatening injury tears through the pages. I immediately blame Mike! Hot tears sting my eyes as I sit with my dimmed-down Kindle so near the ending. It is a bitter-sweet moment with all hopes dashed. But thankfully all turns out well but what a ride that was for me. I hope her other two books are not as traumatic and bumpy as this one was. But as much as I love Ryan's style of writing, I know I can handle whatever lies between the pages now that I have survived "Fall From Grace".

Ryan is a truly fascinating young woman in her early thirties. So transparent, so very, very real and down to earth. I love her and consider her a friend even though we have never met and may never meet until heaven bring all true believers home at last. Keep writing Ryan.....as you have many friends who love you.
