Correlates Well! Good Supplement

I am a 4th grade Special Ed Teacher. This book is very good. It correlates well to Louisiana GLEs and is good for the beginning of class routine. It really has lots of skills that are on the state tests. There are mistakes in the book, yes, but I always answered the questions first to see how I would work the problem and then check the answer key.

I am a homeschooling mom and both myself and daughter are enjoying using Math 4 Today as a part of our math program. I have comfort in knowing she is reviewing important math skills on a daily basis. It keeps her fresh, and lets me rest assured there are no "gaps" in her learning precess. Did I mention, I am a retired teacher of 24 years? I would have loved to have used this with my classroom, if I had known about it!!

The 'Gift of Miracles' in Action

In his recently published book, THE SUPERNATURAL POWER OF A TRANSFORMED MIND: ACCESS TO A LIFE OF MIRACLES (hereafter, SPTM), Bill Johnson picks up where Oral Roberts's thirteen-week devotional, A DAILY GUIDE TO MIRACLES AND SUCCESSFUL LIVING THROUGH SEED-FAITH (Tulsa: Pinoak Publications, 1975) left off in teaching us how to become God's instruments for manifestations of the miraculous today. The revered Chinese evangelist, Watchman Nee's classic work, THE NORMAL CHRISTIAN LIFE (Tyndale House, 1977) also comes to mind because of the frequent use of the phrase 'normal Christian life' throughout SPTM.

Pastor Johnson tells us why he is writing this his second book: '. . . to address a very abused subject--the mind of the [Christian] believer' (Introduction, p. 27). He further expresses his heart's mission for the spiritual 'reformation' of the Christian churches when he says, 'I have come to see that the normal Christian life means miracles, spiritual intervention, and revelation. It means praise, joy, love, a sense of well-being and purpose--all these traits that elude so many Christians' (chap. 1, p. 31). The number and diversity of miraculous interventions (viz., food multiplications; healings; exorcisms; resurrections; et al) that Johnson relates as an ongoing string of testimony from both his own personal experience and the experiences of his many satellite ministers and ministries are dramatic indeed and truly amazing! Again, the earlier ministries of Kathryn Kuhlman, Smith Wigglesworth, Maria Woodworth Etter, the apostles, Jesus, and the Hebrew prophets all come to mind. But are what the apostle Paul describes as 'varieties of gifts' and 'varieties of ministries' distributed 'individually' but not pervasively (cf. 1 Cor. 12:2-30); to be rightly understood as normative and 'standard operating procedure' for every believer in every assembly? Johnson believes so, and he writes: 'It is unnatural for a Christian to not have an appetite for the impossible' (p. 29), and 'signs, wonders, and miracles are as normal to the gospel as it is normal for you to get up in the morning and breathe. Revival is the Christian life; you can't dissect the two' (p. 156).

Another question seems to be: Is the presence or absence of a Christian's 'mental transformation' or 'mind renewal,' THE deciding factor to either release or restrain the manifestation of God's miraculous power for revival, deliverance, healing, adequate food supplies, and resurrections in the lives of his children and those about to become his children? It would appear that with Jesus being physically absent, and the Holy Spirit being now present within us--WE MUST play the part, but is an 'appetite for the impossible' heaven's first and irrevocable prerequisite for God's manifestation? If we listen to Jesus on the subject, again, it appears to be true because 'EVERYTHING is possible for him who BELIEVES' (Mark 9:23, NIV, caps mine).

Memorable quotes for me are found in the eighth chapter, entitled: "Enduring Uncertainty" with subdivisions titled "Accusing God" and "Being Intellectually Offended." Quote #1: "Getting through the difficulty--without becoming defiant or demanding with God--will take us into the very thing God promised" (p. 128). Quote #2: "Persistently pursue fellowship with God even though your uncertainty feels deep and endless, and no answers have materialized" (p. 129). Quote #3: "Create a gate of praise."

SPTM represents neither a 'false word of faith theology,' nor is the author (a fifth generation Christian pastor) caught in a spirtual aberration as one reviewer charges. Johnson writes with an above average degree of candor, disclosing a number of his own human frailties and the ongoing history of his own difficult struggle to grow spiritually and to keep an 'open heaven' above himself and the Christians who he oversees in Redding, California and beyond. His insights from the Scriptures are numerous and important. The absence of a Scripture index in SPTM is disappointing, however, and diminishes the book's value as a ready reference tool for searching the various biblical passages treated.

For Johnson's detractors (viz., the doubters, and the Christian 'cessationists,' who seem to be forever taking a perverse satisfaction in their confessed unbelief), one wonders with which group they would have been sitting at one of Jesus' 'revival' meetings--or if they would have attended at all for fear of a healing, an exorcism, or (God forbid) a resurrection from taking place. Of them I ask: If God is willing to give you more, why be content with less? Why continue to cheat him; yourself; and others out of a FULL Christian experience? If another servant of God dares to step out of the boat, why not let him walk as far and as long as he is able and cheer him on? Why content yourself with throwing stones from the railing? Jesus has commanded us not to try and stop such persons as they pursue ministry in his behalf (cf. Mark 9:38-40). Try saying: 'I am willing to learn.' 'I am willing to grow.' 'I am willing to be vulnerable to change for the sake of his manifest glory.' 'I will not allow my sins of fear, pride, and unbelief to stand in God's way any longer.' I think we have more than enough room in the church to permit what is so abundant in our heads to begin to trickle down to our hearts; our hands; and our feet--allowing the glory of God to be seen again.

The normal Christian life should be like this...

Reading this book is like reading part 2 of John Wimber's Power Evangelism. Johnson helps us understand, see, and live in the reality of being a Christian, i.e. a supernatural life where the presence of God is and where miracles happen. Johnson wrote, "To say, 'I'm only human,' is to say, 'I'm only satanic.' Humanity without Christ at the center is satanic in nature. When you've been given the Spirit of God, you lose the privilege of claiming, 'I'm only human.' You are much more than that!" (pg. 61).

It is common for human beings to explain the mysteries of God till the Spirit of God no longer is part of that mystery, so Johnson said, "They answer every question and remove the realm of mystery... We cannot afford to live only in what we understand because then we don't grow or progress anymore; we just travel the same familiar roads we have traveled all of our Christian life. It is important that we expose ourselves to impossibilities that force us to have questions that we cannot answer. It is a part of the Christian life, which is why the Christian life is called 'the faith.' The normal Christian life ois perfectly poised between what we presently understand and the unfolding revelation that comes to us from the realm of mystery." (pg. 75)

The chapter I enjoyed the most was Chapter 10 - Dreaming with God. Johnson explains how God wants to work with us, and shows us that "servants aren't co-labourers; friends are" (pg. 142). He used examples in the Bible to show that God takes mans ideas and enjoyed this co-labouring and did as man suggessted. Johnson explains that when the Bible says that Jesus did what He saw His Father do, he believes that Jesus was saying that, "I see what moves the Father, and I allow what moves Him to set My course." (pg 146). Co-labouring opens up the area of creativity, but religion has programmes us to shut down anything that might be a personal desire, so we let the world around us do the dreaming, and we draft into their dream (pg. 148).

- A normal Christian is one who obeys the revelations and promtings of the Holy Spirit without understanding. Understanding usually unfolds in the experience (pg. 83).

- God gives us miracles to train us how to powersee differently (pg. 92).

- I will gladly live in the midst of an unexplainable mystery before believing a lie to feel better about my circumstances (pg. 121).

- When some Christians face uncertainty... they often become intellectually offended with God (pg. 127).

Basically a devotional - not a "how to" guide

I purchased this book hoping to learn how to go on a 40 day fast. However, this book is only a devotional with each day (beginning with day 1) being a devotion. If ever I do go on a 40 day fast, I am sure this will be a very beneficial book.

This book was an eye-opener to me. I had never read any book on fasting. I am so happy I did. This book encouraged me to fast for the many reasons, and I did. Immediately after I completed a 3 day fasting I felt closer to God and His presence felt stronger!

This is great to record memories of baby, or thoughts during your pregnancy. It's not a typical baby book where so many things are asked and places to fill out. You write in what you want, and where! Full of lovely quotes and Susan's illustrations.

Great journal

This is a book with beautiful illustrations and lined pages (a lot of pages). It lets you write your baby's story how you want it to be told. I received my first book for my second child, I am buying another book for my third child and I regret not having it for my first child. Most baby books give you catagories on what you should write down as memories for your baby. I felt constricted in those books and there was no room for extra notes that I wanted to make but didn't fit a category dictated by the book. With this journal,every time my child does something wonderful, I open the book and note it. It is a walking timeline that I love!!

Battling the Powers of Darkness

"Fire and Sword" is the fifth book in the "Chronicles of the Host" series. D. Brian Shafer continues in this exciting battle between good and evil. Lucifer and his angels strategize their next steps in their attempt to thwart the influence of Christ and His followers.

Shafer's descriptive word pictures brought a new realism to Paul's prison cell in Rome and insight into the parchment, quill, and ink process of his correspondence with the churches of the New Testament. During Luke's visits with Paul in prison, he fills Paul in on the recent events in Jerusalem regarding the amazing ministry Peter and the other apostles are experiencing.

The book backtracks to give an account of Paul's encounter with Steven and his stoning, and of his own conversion. Shafer follows with an account of the apostles' ministry as recorded in the book of Acts and of Paul's encounters while on his missionary journeys.

Conversations among the angles representing the powers of darkness clearly picture Lucifer's deceit and plans to dupe man by obscuring truth and with offers of worldly pleasure, and power. The archangels and the angelic hosts teach valuable lessons through their stimulating dialog.

Using creative, dramatic, and imaginative fiction as his platform, Shafer provides a brilliant balance of combining scriptural truth with literary license. His writing is Biblically sound, spiritually enlightening, and mentally invigorating.

"Fire and Sword" is a must read for anyone who enjoys historical Christian fiction, with a hint of fantasy and Science fiction. A great read.

I was very excited to get this book! It is part of a series of book from this author and they are awesome books. The best I've read on this subject outside of the Bible itself of coarse! The book came to me in excellent condition and I am very pleased. I have to say that Amazon has never let me down!

"Exploring your Dreams and Visions" is an exciting adventure in understanding; filled with dynamic truths and examples from scripture, personal experiences, and illustrations from the ministry of national best-selling author James W. Goll.

Goll helps the reader discern and understand the mysteries of personal dreams and visions, and encounters with God; carefully defining dream symbols and then clarifying how to interpret them, and recognize their fulfillment.

The format and organization of the content of the book are reader friendly. I found the prophetic guidelines with insights into the terminology and use of images, symbols, and colors to be especially helpful. I also learned from the insights Goll reveals in prophetic ministry, intercessory prayer, and the spiritual discipline of journaling. Another helpful tool is the basic alphabetical and topical listing of terms with their interpretations.

Dr. Goll's writes with clarity and authority. "Exploring your Dreams and Visions" is an interactive journal, a step by step process, designed to help the user record, interpret, and understand the purpose and meaning of specific dreams or visions; an excellent resource tool with practical guidelines, and applications for every Christian today.

Author James Goll uses Biblical teaching and shares from personal experience that God can use dreams and visions to communicate to us today. The author teaches and encourages believers to journal dreams. He explains how to detect if the dream is from God and gives wisdom on how to know God's voice. There is room at the back of the book to journal dreams and God encounters. Anyone having questions in this area may benefit as the author uses scripture to help interpret meaning.

About the Author
T. D. Jakes, Bishop T. D. Jakes was born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia. He received a Doctorate of Ministry and was the founder and senior pastor of the Temple of Faith Ministries in Charleston for sixteen years. He relocated with T. D. T.D. Jakes has gone directly to the soul of women in WOMAN THOU ART LOOSED!

In what can only be described as a spiritual love sonnet to women, Jakes

speaks to all of the hurt and pain that has been experienced by women since

the beginning of time. Using taut Biblical examples like Sara, Eve, and

Esther, Jakes ministers to women in a way that convinces you that divine

intervention was in play when he penned these words.

WOMAN THOU ART LOOSED! delves into women's roles as ordained by God and how

often these roles have become confused due to old hurts, pain, and abuse. As

Jakes covers a plethora of issues including incest, premarital sex, rape, and

promiscuity, he speaks directly to the reader. You often feel you are sitting

in the room with him as he discusses these topics and the biblical insight

into his views. He prays with you as you read and he encourages every woman

to reach for her individual greatness in God.

I have read this book twice and both times I was in very different places in

my life. Each reading brought me a very different and personal message.

Jakes describes the stages of life within the text and I found myself easily

in his metaphor. I was so moved by his words that I dismissed my reading of

the book for a second time as coincidence and acknowledged it as the "God-

incidence" that it certainly was.

WOMAN THOU ART LOOSED! is a book that should be on every woman's nightstand

because no matter what you are experiencing, Jakes has a message for you time

and time again.

IT FORCES WOMEN WHO USE MONEY, MEN AND THEIR BODIES AS A WAY TO GAIN SELF-ESTEEM, RESPECT, OR LOVE. THE BOOK POINTED OUT THAT SOME OF US WHO HAVE BEEN USED SEXUALLY AND DISCARDED,UNKNOWINGLY SEND OUT VIBES THAT SAY TO UNSAVED MEN "I'M DESPERATE, ABUSED AND LONELY. I'LL TOLERATE ANYTHING TO BE LOVED." THAT'S WHY SOME OF US KEEP MEETING THE SAME TYPE OF MEN. SO NO, ALL MEN ARE NOT DOGS. SOME OF US JUST HAVEN'T LEARNED TO LOVE OURSELVES ENOUGH AND TRUST GOD TO BLESS US WITH OUR HEARTS DESIRES. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ANY WOMAN WHO IS TIRED, READY TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH(E.G. After reading this book,I was totally convinced that T. D. Jakes is annointed and has been prophetically impressed upon by God to reach "women" in a manner in which no other man has done thus far. I would be remiss if I did not give hommage to Bishop Jakes for having the divine wisdom and indepth conscienceness to caringly touch those secret places of a womans' psyche that only God himself knows about. This book transcends all barriers such as ethnicity and cultural backgrounds. When it comes down to facts, women are women, and many of us are faced with similar challenges throughout life. I would recommend this book to every woman! It is healing, and powerful. Though "Woman Thou Art Loosed" will often bring tears to your eyes, those tears will inevitably be the water which surfaces the pain and washes it away. After reading this magnificant work by Bishop T. D. Jakes, I believe any woman would be on her way to recovery from whatever hinders her spiritually, physically or emotionally. I, personally, thank God Bishop Jakes!

Jackie Kendall, as president of Power to Grow Ministries, is much sought after as a conference speaker for people of all ages and stages in life. Her teaching style is hard-hitting, humorous, healing, and encouraging. She has written the autobiographical devotional Lunatic on a Limb With Jesus. Jackie resides in Florida with her husband and two children.

A Great Book Even After You Find Mr. Right

I first read this book when my husband and I were still in a dating relationship, before our marriage. The teachings in this book helped me to keep my focus on the most important relationship in my life--my relationship with Jesus. We women can have a tendency to allow our fellowship with the Lord to lapse when we meet a special man and the Lord begins to take second place in our lives. This book was a powerful reminder to me that even AFTER you meet Mr. Right, it's my relationship with my Lord that must still take precedence. This book helped me to keep my mind, heart, AND body pure for my husband-to-be. Now that I've been married five years, the lessons learned from Debby and Jackie are still applicable today. I have a wonderful husband (a real Boaz!) but even a great marriage has growing pains. When I find myself in times of discouragement or dissatisfaction in my marital relationship, I remember that it's not my husband's job to fulfill me, it's the Lord's job. It never fails that when I do a spiritual checkup, I discover that it's really my relationship with Jesus that needs the tune up and when I start giving Jesus my devotion once again, my discouragement always disappears, confirming what Debby and Jackie are teaching with this book--only Jesus can make us whole. If more women realized this principle, there might be fewer divorces among God's people.

A Male's Perspective.

It has been asked before why a male would read such a book as LADY IN WAITING. My answer to the question is that I am sincerely interested in how the female mind works and what women expect out of a relationship. Of course, I'm often curious as to how correct books like this are concerning what men are really like (or should be like). I've read several books like this and I must say that so far LADY IN WAITING is the best.To begin with the book has a Biblical core, it's written with the Book of Ruth as it's foundation. Many books like this don't have such an indebth Biblical basis. Granted there are a few things one could argue about (I think Ruth's uncovering Boaz's feet wasn't an act of purity, but was actually quite radical and scandlous), but overall the authors are right on the money.Secondly, the book gives a positive view of men and is usually correct about the role of a man in life.Finally, this book doesn't offer false hope. Many books similar to LADY IN WAITING promise that if a women follows such and such steps, she will eventually catch her man. LADY IN WAITING offers no such promises. It is implicit in reminding the reader that only in God can a women be completely made whole, not in a husband and clearly illustrates that not all women will are meant to be married. An enjoyable and informative read, one that females will probably get even more out of than a young bachelor like myself.

I am a lady in waiting...

I read Lady in Waiting several years ago while still in my early teens. I have refered back to it many times since then trying to grow my relationship with the Lord while I wait on my future husband. I agree that our ultimate goal is to be satisfied completely with Christ and His cross, but that is something we as humans won't be able to completely attain until we are in Heaven with Christ. Strive for contentedness yes, and find your significance in Him, but it's ok to long for a husband. Don't dwell on it, but to deny and ignore the longings of your heart to me is almost like denying and ingnoring the One who placed them there in the first place.

In short, this is a great read and a great example of how to mold your life after the One who gave you life. Strive for holiness, but rely on the One who is holy to make you holy, and wait on His timing for your future husband, He will send him when you both are ready.
